Try restoring your Illustrator preferences as described in this Illustrator Help file:

Try resetting to factory defaults.

Quit Illustrator

Press Cmd+Opt+ Sh (Mac) or Ctl+Alt+Sh (Win)

Start up Ai.

Keep keys depressed. Till you see welcome screen and reset message.
