cant see grid lines

i should be able to see the grid that i am hovering over but for some reason it does not show up. only the individual grid boxes show up if i hover over. when i clicked split into grid, should i have clicked create guides? because those guides would interfere with the ones i already have.

Did you give the grid a stroke color?
