cant select line segment tool

Hi,

I am doing an illustrator beginner course atm.

First of all the side tool bar of my illustrator looks different to the teachers one.
I have less tools even when I extend the view.

Second I can't select the line segment tool.
Which I need to continue the lesson.

Another option, if you want to stay in Essentials, is to select Window>Toolbars>Advanced. That will give you an 'advanced' toolbar rather than 'basic' and you will have your line segment tool.

Change from Essentials to Essentials Classic solved the problem.

Can someone explain what that means?
I am following a tutorial as well and I am unable to select the line tool in illustrator. I have no idea what Essentials or Essentials Classic even is, and this solution doesn't provide any context.

It is absolutely asinine to me that I am unable to draw a line upon opening illustration software. There must be a simple answer here...
