changing the color profile of EPS graphic

Is there a way to see what color profile is an EPS graphic ?

I've recently sent a pdf file with an EPS logo, which needs to be printed in golden foil.. and the printer said it's not suitable and I need to adjust the color profile.

Now I am wondering how to do this... Do I need to convert the EPS into vector curves (with Image trace for example) ?

This is the document info:

Michal,

Capturing a shape from a saved image is a bit un intuitive in Capture because by default the camera opens.

When you are in the camera view you will find a small pic icon in the upper right. This gives you access to a lot of locations to find images. You will find your Libraries under the Creative Cloud link. Navigate to the image in the library and select it. Now you can create a shape from it.

An EPS file cannot have an ICC color profile assigned.

You will need to use a different file format.

When printing with foil, the color profile usually shouldn't matter at all.

You might want to ask the printer for exact file specifications and/or describe the whole project in more detail.

ok, thanks. I thought the file format would be a problem.

Do you know what format would be suitable ? SVG maybe ?

I tried to use image trace on the logo, but it's quite inaccurate so I can't use that.. and re-drawing it with pen tool would be extremely complicated..

Image trace?

So it's a pixel EPS?

Can you please tell us exactly how the logo will be used? Placed in a layout? Sent to a printer for t-shirt printing in foil? What will happen?

It sounds like the printer isn’t communicating clearly what they need. If the EPS logo is going to foil stamp, then it has to be a vector graphic. EPS graphics may or may not be vector. If you tried image trace, then you are telling us it is an image and not vector. You may have no choice but to redraw the logo as vector, and then color the vector shape with a spot swatch color. This doesn’t have anything to do with the color profile.

You could try Adobe Capture mobile app to convert it to vector. I think Capture works better than image trace. You would need to open the EPS file in Photoshop and then add the graphic to a CC Library. Then using a mobile device like a phone or a tablet, you could use Capture to create a shape of the logo. The shape would get saved back to the CC Library and from there you could open it in Illustrator and color it appropriately for production.

thanks Theresa. This sounds interesting.

I've managed to add the logo to the 'Graphics' panel in my library.. but I can't seem to open it in the Capture app - all I see there are colors, shapes and patterns.

Or do you mean just taking a photo of the logo on my PC screen ?

I've tried that and it works actually pretty well..

Well, an EPS can have colour management. The EPS might contain a converted colour mapping (called a CRD, I think) which can be a conversion of a profile, but there's no way to know what it was. I agree, for gold foil the printer will very probably want a spot colour, which is impossible to guess - do you have any specifications?

If I were to guess, I'd say they're misusing the term 'color profile', and they actually want either a single spot colour vector file, or a 1-bit bitmap image. But a guess is all it will be until you ask for specifics from them.
