New Here ,
Jul 02, 2024 Jul 02, 2024

Could someone walk me through the steps to create a knockout effect on top of text with clipping mask? Ive been trying on my own for over a week now fairly new to using illustrator so i could really use the help. Below is an example of what effect i want to create. Thank you

Is your logo raster or vector object?

Do you want this as an effect? In the sense of a live effect?

Or what are you expecting?

Mari,

For artwork like that I believe you will be happier looking into Opacity Masks/Knockout Groups through the Transparency palette.

To get from white Fills to transparent areas you may either:

A) Change the strokes to transparent, and then group everything and use the Knockout Group in the Transparency palette,

or you may:

B) Keep them white and use Opacity Masks (click Make Opacity Mask in the Transparency palette flyout with Clip unticked and Invert Mask ticked).

You may read more about both here,

https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/transparency-blending-modes.html

and see an exquisite screenshot by Ton (with another colour than white) in the first post here,

Edit: Strikethrough on lost link.

Offtopic.
Sorry @Jacob Bugge the "forums.adobe.com" links have not been working for two months now (the servers of the old forum have been shut down for good)

Very on topic, pixxxelschubser, and thank you very much.

I had overlooked the forums part of the link; another fine link lost.

MariYahshades, hi.

This is how I set up my file.

Layers: See screenshot. I am so working with Live Type

Swatches: I loaded a texture Pattern. Patterns>Basic Graphics>Basic Graphics_Textures. I choose Capsules

For the Knockout Group

In Appearance Panel, select your pattern Fill, give it Opacity: 0%

Select your B text and Pattern Fill. Object>Group.

In Transparency Panel- Check Knockout Group.

Don't forget to add the extended outline of the live font to the Knock Out group.
