Color fill

I tried to fill the shape with solid color but I dunno what happened after I group the shapes....

It was normal before I group them. The arch line is not even shown before I group them.

you can use live paint bucket tool to color the illustration. 

i cannot understand exactly the problem, can you show the illustration befor and after??

One shot into darkness:

It could be that Illustrator converted the open paths to closed areas. Can you compare the previous document with the current document?

Select in both documents your artwork, then choose

menu: Window: Document Information Palette -> Options -> Objects
