Whenever i pick a color from an object that is not text and alt-click on a text that i want to apply the color, it resets the font family and size. Am i wrong or the font used to change only when i copied from on text to another?

That's strange. I'm unable to recreate the error in Illustrator 29.1. The only thing that happens when I alt-click the text object with the eyedropper tool is the type reduces in size, but the typeface remains the same. Illustrator 29.1 has some type bugs that are about to be fixed in the next update. Which version of Illustrator are you using?

My first suggestion would be to try resetting the Adobe Illustrator Preferences file. That can be done by pressing and holding Option+Command+Shift (macOS) or Alt+Ctrl+Shift (Windows) when launching Adobe Illustrator.

If resetting Preferences doesn't work you could try applying the version 29.1 update or even installing a different build of Illustrator.
