Command F issue and PDF rendering 1/10 of actual size when viewed after saving

Without having changed any settings, I went from having no issues at all with multipage PDFs created using multiple artboards, then all of a sudden Command F and the size the PDF renders in changed.

1) When I copy work from a PDF created in Illustrator with only one artboard into a multi-artboard document, Command F does not paste to the selected artboard to to ANY artboard, but rather just randomly places the work floating in the workspace.

2) With everything set to high quality print, 300dpi, etc and having changed nothing at all from when I was not experiencing these problems, all of a sudden my PDFs started showing up at 1/10 the actual size they should be. The quality of the images is still there - I can zoom in without losing clarity - but when I'm opening my PDF in Preview it is reduced in size. I am also uploading these files to KDP and they are showing up at 1/10 scale in the Previewer there as well.

These are almost 100% text-based pages, with only one page containing a logo. These are simple PDFs in black and white. I have not changed a single setting from the weeks I was using the exact same workflow without issue. This just started happening on its own. I've updated to the latest version my computer can handle and have rebooted my computer, I've checked every Setting I can think of. Every tutorial, conversation, and video I have found that touches on the size of my PDF points to attempting to reduce file size, but that is not my issue. I want my file to appear at the scale I am using inside Illustrator. And I want Command F to paste on the artboard I select.

Any help would be much appreciated.

10% in size is caused by Large Document format. So obviously you have created that by accident.

Cmd+F pastes in front and in place. But the rulers need to be set up the same way (artboard ruler resp. global rulers)

Don't use Preview for checking files. Use Acrobat.

Thank you for your response. I did not change any procedures when setting up my document from when this was working just fine to when it stopped working, nor did I make any adjustements to the Rulers. I'm hoping you can tell me what to look for when creating a new document so that the Rulers adhere to the selected Artboard and I do not create a Large Document format project. Again, I haven't changed my workflow at all so I have no idea how or where anything was changed, and therefore don't know how to *not* change it for next time: I want to create a multiple letter sized artboard project where I can copy from one project into this new one having Cmd+F function as it should for the artboard I select. I appreciate your time.

To check your rulers settings: View > Rulers > Artboard rulers (sets them to artboard rulers, needs to be done in both documents)

In order to not create a Large Document: Do not enter higher document sizes than about 6 meters

Hello @lisa_0944,

I am sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind selecting the artboard before pasting it to check if it helps? If the problem persists, try running Illustrator Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) to see if it helps.

For problems with the size, kindly check if the artboard size is consistent and if downscaling is enabled.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Thank you for your time but I was already selecting the artboard and the settings shown in your screenshot were already being used.

Can you create a new document with artboards the size you want?

Copy (or recreate) the content in this new document. Like Monika said, this looks like a Large Canvas Document.

Do you get this warning sign when you create a new document, and when you click it does it show this message?

Hello @lisa_0944,

Sorry to hear the suggestions did not help. Would you mind sharing some more details, like a public link to a sample file after uploading it to Dropbox/Google Drive/etc., and a screen recording of your entire workflow and the problem (https://adobe.ly/3Y4eTFT), so we can investigate this further?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav
