Crop an image without using clipping mask in Illustrator.

Hi,

I am developing a plugin which will crop any image outside the document boundary. I have used methods in AIMask suite to set clipping mask of the art layer but was not able to get desired result. I used "Clipping Mask->make" tool to crop an image but it doesn't completely remove the crop part from the document. I want crop functionality simalr to Photoshop in Illustrator.

Please someone giude me!

The only other way I'm aware of is the pathfinder, but that won't work on all types of art.
