Day #s and holiday names in calendar date frame

Firstly, I am certain that there is a “better way” to do this project, but I’m quite new to Creative Cloud and prefer to do my project using only what I know, and trying new ways will take longer to learn than creating my project in “the wrong way.”

I am creating a calendar for my family in Illustrator CC and I’m using rectangles in groups stacked by day of the week. For example, January 1st is on a Wednesday, so the column in the Wednesday position will have a column of grouped rectangles with these date numbers, 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. I want to put those numbers in the top right corner of the rectangle for that day, and it will have a 24pt font size. Also, I want to put family members birthdays and anniversaries as well as any holidays in the same day’s rectangle with a font size of 10pt, but that text will align to the top left and wrap around the date numbers, and if needed I can do the word wrap manually.

I have a “Visual QuickStart Guide” on my Kindle and I’m having trouble understanding the chapters on type. Can anyone give me some pointers that I might be able to follow to accomplish this task?

Thanx

please show what you've already done and where you're made to stop due to difficulties.

Your workaround makes sense, and I'd suggest to create 1 cell with all needed elements and then multiply it and edit how it's needed.

Apply Text Wrap option to data numbers to arrange the other texts around.

What is the pdifficulty with type? Character settings, Paragraph settings, anything else?

It’s a bit difficult to describe what I am trying to do when I don’t even know what I need to do. So, let me ask instead a couple of individual questions and see if I can get a better understanding of what I should do.

First, can I put 2 TOTALLY INDEPENDENT area type objects in THE SAME shape? 1 will be the date number and the other will have the events for that date.

Second, can I create several point type objects and move more than one of them into the same geometric shape? Create the date number and the events for that date in 2 separate point type objects and move BOTH of them into the same proper rectangle.

Last, and additionally, once the text needed is in each rectangle, can I unite all of them into one object, or is grouping the several objects the only option that I have?

Thanx again, for your time,

John

yes, I see.

Here is an example of workflow:

1. Create a background rectangle.

2.Using Type tool create a text box, type a number and format it like you need (by Control Panel, Properties panel or Character panel).

3. Add Text Wrap option:

clipboard_image_0.png

To change space around the number, use Object > Text Wrap > Text Wrap Options

4. Create a second text box (for date descriptions), place and format it like you need:

clipboard_image_1.png

5. Bring the number forward (Object > Arrange > Bring toFront or Ctrl/Cmd+]😞

6. If you see a red cross on the right side of the description box, increase its size.

7. Group all the details (Ctrl/Cmd+G)

8. Make copies and place them on the layout.

9. Using Type tool edit the content. You don't need to ungroup the cells to edit text by Type tool.
