Hi all, I hope someone can help me. I have watched videos on erase path tool, scissor, knife, join path but none of them were able to deliver what I wants or I am not using them well 😄
So i have 2 intersecting shapes. I want to delete parts of one shape (not all!) see image 1 marked with yellow dotted line. I can't figure out how. The best so far was the scissor tool but i wasnt able to delete all I wanted (see imaghe 2)
I am new to AI and I have a background in Photoshop so I am kinda thinking from that aspect, the best would be if I could somehow just make a selection and delete the selected part, or make a slection and grab the eraser and remove the part within the selection, but I guess thats not optional here. I really appreciate your help!

Have you tried the Shapebuilder tool?

The Shapebuilder tool may or may not work as expected in that case.
Can you share a sample .ai file?

Hi Zsuzsanna,
Thanks for reaching out. Does it work, if you hide the other objects (portions of artwork which you don't want to erase ) from layers panel and then try again? As Kurt said, to share the exact workflow we need to take a look at your file. If it has confidential information, you can share the file through DM as well.
As mentioned above, Shape Builder tool may (may not) also help with basic editing, depending upon your artwork. For more details, you may take a look at this help article: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/creating-shapes-shape-builder-tool.html

Dear All,
I have solved the issue. by redrawing the image with pen tool and just kindof not drawing the part that i didn't want the see... this is obviously not best but it does the job. However I am still interested of what you think it would. be best to solve so here is the file.

I'm not sure what your goal is, but the easiest way to do this, IMO, is to convert the two compound paths (no need for groups) into one "Live Paint" object and fill each area as needed. "Live Paint" is non-distructive and you can move and edit your lines and see the fills update instantly.
