Drop shadow

When I try to put a drop shadow on some PNG files it gives a shadow on the entire image box. I have played around with it for months and I give up! Help!! Thanks!

You could make a clipping mask around the object in the photo

What kind of .png is it? Can you perhaps share it?

I'm asking because I seem to have no issues with creating drop shadows as per your description, that is, just applied to the visible parts of the transparent raster image.
