Grazie in anticipo a chi potrà aiutarmi.

Buon pomeriggio

Antonello
---------------

Hi, I have a problem:

I can't open a dxf or dwg (I have an advanced autocad type software called "Catia V6"), exported from a pdf, with AI CS6.

I tried with all the available versions of autocad that appear in the drop-down menu, before exporting.
With AI CS6, installed in 2012 on the office PC, I've never had any problems, however with AI 2023 (installed this year on the laptop supplied for SW), I discovered this catch.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

Good afternoon

Antonello

Hi @Antonello28401229qtql,

Thank you for reaching out to us. It seems like you're having trouble opening a DXF/ DWG file exported from a PDF. This is happening due to the files themselves not being created in accordance with the proper file format specifications. Illustrator uses the latest AutoCAD library from Autodesk to open, import, and export DXF/ DWG files, but even older versions of AutoCAD may also have difficulty opening these malformed files.

If you come across any DXF/ DWG files that can be opened in the latest versions of AutoCAD but not in Illustrator, please share the file with me via DM for further investigation. Our team will do their best to resolve any bugs that may exist.

It's worth noting that Illustrator versions 25 and below were able to open and import these files because they used a different library, which did not strictly check the DXF/ DWG files for conformance. However, due to the lack of support for recent OS upgrades, Illustrator has switched to the latest AutoCAD library from Autodesk for opening, importing, and exporting DXF/ DWG files. Unfortunately, the older versions of Illustrator are no longer available in Creative Cloud due to Adobe policy, but you may try installing an older version as suggested in this community post.

It's also important to note that other third-party apps may also export DXF/ DWG files using older AutoCAD libraries that may not open in Illustrator in your case; it is the app called "Catia V6". If you encounter such files, please report them to the application that created them to switch to newer libraries supplied by AutoCAD and for a potential fix in future releases.

Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Best,

Anshul Saini
