Font Height Options Default

Hello,

I work in fabricated signage. Our unit of measurement is inches and it is baked into our company's pricing and internal language. It is also how our customers talk about their orders and artwork. Points and picas are a no-go.

This is why my coworkers and I have been so pleased with the recent addition of the "Font Height Options" in the character panel. I was wondering if there was a way to keep "Cap Height" as the default for all fonts forever, rather than having to constantly go a select it.

I create our profiles, actions, swatches, etc for the department but havent found a way to do this. Does anyone know? If it's not possible yet, can this find it's way into an update?

Thank you.

And i should probably explain. Cap Height is preferred since the default "Em Box" doesnt work well with inches and how our company/customers talk about signage. If a customer orders a 6" letter, they are talking about Cap Height. Thus, "Tim's Plumbing" in 6" letters would mean the capital "T" measures 6". Our units in Illustrator are set to Inches across the board. When we are working with editable text, this makes it difficult to do conversions since the Em Box calculates height differently. For instance, to type a 6" letter with Em Box setting in Times New Roman, I need to tell the character panel to set the text at 9.07". The same is true for every font except the value differs. With the addition of "Cap Height", we are very blessed. But id like to turn it on permenantly if possible.

What kind of ASAP do you expect to happen?

Jelena,

As mentioned 3 years ago, it could form the basis of a feature request, which can reach the product team at Adobe, on this site,

with the following introductory words from Adobe:

Hello Jacob,
There is a feature request. It is two years old. This seemingly simple request has gone unanswered. TBH, ive given up on this even though the need for it has never been greater in the sign industry. A colleague of mine entered the request....should i add my own? Or should we continue to expect default lifeless responses?
