What are the purpose of using gradient tool? One known fact is to give a aesthetic look to a logo. Is there any other reasons?
See the following logo it looks like one end taking a backward root to other end. That means it looks like a 3D logo.

Not sure there is a simple answer to your query - The gradient tool allows designers to flow from one color to another (or several) smoothly. It's a design choice and can be used in various means like the example you are showing.

And if you don't see that a tool is useful for your work, your workflow, or the style you want to achieve, then maybe just don't use the tool? There are others that you might find more interesting. You do not *have* to use all the tools.
You might want to look at Romain Trystram's work. I don't know whether they use Illustrator, but parts of it are vector artwork and gradients are all over the place. beautiful artworks. https://www.behance.net/romaintrystram Just to give you an idea of what gradients can be used for.

There are many different use cases for Illustrator. Creating logos is just one of them. Whether or not a logo could or should contain a gradient is the subject of heated discussions among designers.
