Halftone gradient?

Hi everyone. I have tried recreating this but not successful.

Screenshot 2020-01-29 at 20.01.56.png

My first step was created a gradient background from black to red, the first image. But the gradient has a white in the middle because of the gradient effect. How is the effect on these just from black to red? Then I put the lines pattern on top. Am I getting this wrong? I am only concern about the middle part of this.

Or are those halftone gradient lines?

Thanks for your help!

It looks to me like the lines are evenly spaced. You could simple add a pattern fill something like this:

Edit:
Off-topic… why are "large" screen captures so blasted small??

If the lines DO get progressively smaller Monika has the answer.

Make a blend between a thin rectangle and a thick rectangle. Then mask it.

Hi rcraighead, that is so bang on. Sadly I can't see the details of your screenshot! 😞 I think the doesn't doesn't get smaller..it just seems to get darker which you got it.

So what was your steps? You created that gradient background and added the pattern (lines in this case) fill on top?

Thank you so much!

Hi, Cin,

From your description of the gradient problem I'm guessing that you are in CMYK mode and using pure black for the dark end of the gradient. If you look at rcraighead's screenshot of the gradient panel you will see that the black has magenta and yellow added. This will reduce or eliminate the "white" effect. You could also add a red gradient stop or two with increasing amounts of black as you get closer to the black end, and play with the positions and spacing.

Hi Peter, thanks! I am indeed in CMYK mode. I've actually made the black 0% but still showed the 'white' bit. So I had it 100% red and 0% opacity on the black. I will play with the colours.

Thank you!

For whatever my comments may have been worth to you, you're welcome. There are always lots of variables to play with, and getting things just right is sometimes elusive. I wish you success. Please feel free to ask as much and as often as you need to.

Thanks very much! I think I got it 🙂

Just another question about gradients (sorry!). Do you know of any good video tutorial about making 3 gradients? I have tried to make one today from dark blue to pink to white and there's always that white line separating the pink and the white..like a white line. Is this the same case where I have to play with the value of the white?? There's not much to play with that..or is it the pink I have to play with?

Thank you again!
