I keep losing the tabs in my illustrator (there are not tabs to show the different documents I have open see pic), and the window bar with the red, yellow, green dots disapears.  This happens when I have been working in illustrator all day. I'm on a mac, and have tried switching views, and workspaces but can only get them back if I restart the program.  I am not sure if I am hitting a funny combo of keys or if its a glitch.  I want to view my tabs and be able to minimize my screen without having to reopen the program, any suggestions? thanks!

Do you mean the Document tabs? Go to Window > Consolidate all Windows, if that is what you are asking.

Also, make sure your Application Frame is turned on in the Window menu

Hi,

Thanks for your response, I do mean the documents tabs, and when I try different arrangements, nothing changes. Currently, consolidation is greyed out. I tried switching between arrangements with no luck.  The application frame is checked on but also greyed.

It looks like you have a third-party plug-in installed in Illustrator. Have you checked to see if this plug-in is fully compatible with the version of Illustrator you are using?

Can you try removing/uninstalling the plug-in and see if it brings Illustrator back to a more stable application?

  • Refer to the plug-in installer notes to see how you can best remove the plug-in. Some plug-in developers installe an Uninstall app that allows you to remove the plug-in.
  • Alternatively try removing it yourself from the Plug-ins folder inside the Illustrator application folder on in the Applications folder, and then restarting Illustrator.

Also try resetting the Illustrator preferences by pressing Cmd+Option+Shift as you launch Illustrator, then click Yes when prompted to reset the preference files.
