I've used Extrude and Bevel for this. Why do these faint lines show up in the blue area and how do I remove them?

Sometimes what you see on your screen will not print. Have you tried printing it?

Those might be just antialiasing issues.
Turn off "Smooth artowrk" in Preferences > General to check that. The lines should vanish.
If the lines stay, you will need to combine the shapes. Use pathfinder functions. That will be the clean solution for this.

When I turned off anti-aliasing the art turned more jagged. I didn't see any relief from the pathfinder functions either. I'm not very familiar with those though so I might be doing something wrong?
It's like the outline of each extruded side is revealed.

Try and select all and then use the pathfinder "Merge" (from the Pathfinder panel)
If that does not work, you will need to do some further manual editing with the pen tool, direct selection tool, etc.

You know, I think you're right! I printed it from Illustrator, as an eps and an exported jpg. They looked fine. I still don't understand why the "framework" shows on the screen. It seems that would make someone think it was a bad file if I sent it to them. I'll consider this answered.
Thank you all.
