MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019)
2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
16GB 240 MHz DDR4
MacOS Big Sur 11.6.1
Adobe Illustrator 26.0
When I try to copy and paste elements, all of the formatting is lost. Images will not copy and paste at all, text coverts to my default font and color (black Myriad Pro Regular).
I have tried resetting Illustrator preferences. I have restarted the laptop several times. I have tried it on multiple files and between files, some of which are saved to the cloud, some of which are on my local machine. Same results. This is not a problem in other applications, just Illustrator. Seems to have only just started this morning.
I literally cannot do any work. Please help!
Deleting preferences turned out to be only a temporary fix. We eventually figured out that there was a conflict between Adobe and an endpoint security application that our IT team had installed. It was also creating copy/paste issues in Microsoft Office. Mac users across departments were having difficulties. If you and others having this problem are on a company-wide network, I would urge you to reach out to your IT department and mention this and see if they have any ideas for you.
I had this problem and solved it by deleting the app I had installed called Quick Look.

Here is a list of apps that have been identified to cause this.
In order to find out which apps is causing it, what you usually do is turn them off, then launch Illustrator and then try.

I have found a solution which was to uninstall and reinstall InDesign.
Just for the record, I uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator and the issue didn't go away…

There are dozens of applications that interfere with the clipboard. So if it's not Outlook for you, you have to continue searching. Maybe it's Apple Mail.

I can't believe this is working ! Thanks you so much. Indeed, when i close Outlook, copy & paste works. Seriously, i have a lot of bug in Adobe Software, i have to install a lot of different version but come on, if a simple ctrl + c / ctrl + v not working anymore, i will going crazy. Adobe fix your software pls god. Stop doing update for new tools.

It will be difficult to keep third party software from spilling into the clipboard. The clipboard is a general place on your system, that all applications are using for their stuff.
So when Outlook is interfering, I would suggest you report that to Microsoft. But maybe you already expect them to just throw away your complaint.

Worked in my case as well (MS Outlook 2021). I've closed only Outlook (not Adobe programs) and it immediately started to work. Thanks once again. Saved my nerves.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing frustration with copy-pasting between Illustrator and InDesign. I understand how important it is for you to get this issue resolved as quickly as possible.
Would you mind confirming if you're able to copy and paste vector objects between other applications?
First, check if the clipboard is working properly in other applications. You can copy something from Illustrator and paste it into a different application, like Pages or TextEdit, and see if it works correctly. If the clipboard is working fine in other applications, then try resetting the preferences of both Illustrator and InDesign.
Also, as Monika suggested, there are many applications that can interfere with the clipboard, so it's possible that it may not be Outlook that's causing the issue for you. It could be another application, such as Apple Mail, Google Chrome, etc. It might be worth checking to see if any other applications are interfering with the clipboard.
If none of the suggested solutions have worked for you, I recommend trying to start your Mac in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. Safe Mode performs certain checks and prevents third-party software/services from automatically loading or opening. If copying & pasting works fine in Safe Mode, then you can open other apps one by one that you usually use and see which app conflicts with Illustrator & Indesign. You can check and find the culprit app/process with the help of Activity Monitor, and then you'll have to close/disable/uninstall them on your user account and then restart your machine in normal mode.
Please let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions. I'm here to assist you further.
Best,
