Illustrator 2023 - Area Type / Stylize / Outer Glow = Drop Shadow?

Not what I'm seeing. Please show the appearance panel for the object.

The reason it appears as it does is because you have the the Mode set to Multiply and the glow color set to black. Click on the square next to the word "Multiply" and change the color to white. Then change the Mode to "Screen" and you should see the Outer Glow you're looking for.
