I'm trying to apply the effect of color glow to a simple layer in my illustrator document however each time i try to apply any color it will continuously go back to black. I've tried a bunch of different things and each time it goes back to black. Not sure why this happening as it's never happened before. Any and all help would be appreciated thanks!

Hi

Did this happen with "Outer Glow"? I ran into the same issue. I was able to correct it by turning on the Preview, then choosing a new color. I Cancelled out and was able to get it to work in the Appearance Panel. I'm not sure why it happened.

Hmm I couldn’t find the preview option you mentioned. Was that within Outer Glow?

Please tell us step by step what you do and at which point it goes back to black.

Is the problem that Illustrator doesn't keep the options when you set up the next object or can't you change the color at all?

Or is it rather that you change the color but don't see the color on the artboard?

I'm having this problem as well. Document color mode is normal. Color starts blue when I try to use Neon, but if I try to change it, it goes to black. If I try to change it enough times, the program locks up and pressing buttons does nothing.

In the Color panel of your document select the drop down menu in top right corner of this panel and see what is selected- I'm thinking Grayscale is selected?

I had the same problem. I went to the appearance panel and turned off the eye icon next to "neon glow" - it changed the black to the color I tried to choose. I don't understand why this works.

I think this thread is about Effect > Artistic > Neon Glow (not Outer Glow as assumed earlier).

Neon Glow seems broken.

When you change it's color it becomes black.

You can report it here:
