Illustrator autosave deletes all link information

When I lose work to Illustrator crashing I lose all linked data. It is often more timeconsuming to relink than return to older file version.

I have overall feeling that Illustrator is simply getting older. 
There are many unnecessary features, illogical things. 
Newer programs have more intuitvise solutions. Why not write Illustrator program from scratch.
