Illustrator Font Weight Doesn't Change Visually. However, The Same Font Works in Photoshop.

I had installed Montserrat variable a while ago, which was working in Illustrator, but was not showing in Photoshop. So I uninstalled the whole font from the system, and reinstalled it to see if it would show up in Photoshop as well. Instead what happened was it was enabled in Photoshop and worked fine, but when I opened it in Illustrator, the font thickness didn't change visually even though the options and italic was changing.
Other fonts work just fine:
Another strange thing is that when I enter the Outline View (Ctrl + Y) it seems to recognize it as bold. But if I expand the font, it returns to the regular form:
Any ideas how to solve this?

That's a Google font, right? From where did you download it? And also: it might have been updated.
Several Google fonts have issues and since Illustrator is very prissy about fonts, it will always be the first app to notice.

Was a while ago but I'll redownload it from Google Fonts and try reinstalling it to see if that helps! Thanks for the idea.
