Hi guys!

When I create a PDF on Illustrator, the PDF file is white with the following text in mosaic:

"This is an Adobe® Illustrator® file that has been saved without PDF content.
In order to import or open this file in other applications, it must be saved again from Adobe Illustrator with the Create option.
a PDF-compatible file enabled. This
option can be found in the Illustrator native format options dialog box, which appears when
saving an Adobe Illustrator file using the Save As command."

I've done what he says, but nothing happens... I can't create the PDF!

Has anyone had this problem and solved it?

Thanks for your help!!!

Just to be sure we're talking about the same thing, you are sure that this box is checked when you save the file?

Windows 10

Adobe Illustrator 24.1.1 (updated March 27, 2020)

I can create a file and "Save As" an AI.

I close the file, reopen, make a change and "Save".

The file tab says "saving".

However, none of the changes have actually been saved, date modified remains unchanged.

If I uncheck "Create PDF Compatible File" in the Save As dialogue box,  I cannot place the file as a linked Smart Object in Photoshop, and I get told I cannot save the file the next time I open it ("the file may be read only").

Same issue with EPS.

I can save a PDF, but the preview in both Windows Explorer and Directory Opus [edit after further testing] is a warning that the file was saved without PDF content.

Any help would be appreciated.

Without any specific info on storage locations and your Explorer settings nobody can tell you much. This simply sounds like it's constantly rebuilding the thumbnails and locking the files in the process. the obvious answer would of course be to turn off the Windows preview and use a list view. It may also help to manually delete the thumbs.db files and have them rebuild from scratch. they can become pretty large after a while and you may in fact run out of disk space/ exceed some limit, especially if you have many files in the same folders.

Thanks Mylenium!!

I incorrectly stated I used Explorer, when I actually use Directory Opus.

Solution was to turn-off the Viewer Pane, just use Details view.

I use mac and system up to date.

Whenever I try to save my ai file as pdf file it shows error message rather than saving it.

When I save, I use save as, and try to find create pdf compatible file option, but there isn't one I can find.
I did checked on forum and tried to delete old preference, but even though I go through the file location people said on online, there was no such file in my preference folder as well.

I attached screenshot of my preference folder.

The error message says;

"This is an Adobe® Illustrator® File that was
saved without PDF Content.
To Place or open this le in other
applications, it should be re-saved from
Adobe Illustrator with the "Create PDF
Compatible File" option turned on. This
option is in the Illustrator Native Format
Options dialog box, which appears when
saving an Adobe Illustrator le using the
Save As command."
