I have a one year old iMac, late 2015 model, with 24gb RAM. I've never had trouble running Adobe programs until this last update - now, every time I try to highlight existing text in Illustrator, it lags like crazy, and as of tonight, it's not even working... It doesn't freeze, it just spins the pinwheel until I click a different tool. I can type new text just fine, but am completely unable to highlight existing text. Does it in every document, new or old, and the problem continues despite restarting the program & my computer. It seems like everything else is working properly, but for whatever reason, it doesn't want to highlight text; I've even had it crash the entire program a couple of times over the last couple of weeks. I found a thread about a similar problem in InDesign, and gave the solution posted there a shot, but it didn't help. Problem exists with both text typed in a text box or on a line drawn with the Pen tool.
I am running version 23.0.1 of Illustrator, and Mac OsX Mojave 10.14.1. If I can't work it out, I'll be going back to the last version of Illustrator, but I'd *really* like to stick with this one. Any ideas on how to resolve?

So it's only specific text objects? Or also when you just click with the text tool and type?
Does it affect all fonts? Or just some?
Do you use a font management tool?

It happens with all existing text. It doesn't have issues when typing new text. If I try to click into existing text to edit it, or try to highlight existing text, it slows down and sometimes freezes or just won't work.
Affects all fonts equally (so far, anyway - I have over 2100 so I haven't tested every single one). I don't use a font management tool beyond Font Book, but I have been looking into them.

Just did some more testing and realized it only seems to be happening with fonts I have installed - system fonts, like Times New Roman and Myriad Pro, don't have any lag issues. I'm starting to suspect I may have too many fonts installed. Would a font management program help with this issue? Or do I just need to remove some of the ones I don't use?

I don't know if font management software will help you. I don't have any installed, because Illustrator has issues with some versions of some of them (it's complicated as Facebook would call it).
Maybe just try and uninstall a couple hundred and see if it gets any better?

Hi. Just wanted to throw this out there. I've been having awful issues with illustrator too, working primarily with text and very simple shapes. A 10 hour project has taken several 18 hour days because of the slowness and crashing. Anyway, today I went through piece by piece to see if I could find the culprit (after trying everything under the sun recommended to fix the issue), and it was the TEXT WRAP tool. I released all of the text wrapping, and now it's working like a charm. Just thought I would throw it out on the off chance that your issue is less related to fonts and is possibly related to text wrapping.
