Has anyone else had this issue? illustrator freezes multiple times a day. It is not a regular freeze. I am working on a MacBook it does not say 'not responding'. Also, the top bar on Illustrator opens and lets me click around but does not actually do anything. I attached a video so u can see what's going on. I really don't want to force quit. Anyone know of any solutions?
I tried keeping track of what makes it happen, sometimes its if i close my laptop, open another program like photoshop or like today when i was disconnected from wifi for a moment
Yep,, and still no fix. ! I reported here and got no where. I called twice to support, got no where.

I am encountering a similar issue when I leave Illustrator to idle in the background. I am accustomed to leaving it open for sometimes days on end, and moving between working on other things and working on Illustrator during the day.
In my case, Illustrator becomes completely non-responsive. No keyboard shortcuts, menus or anything respond. Right clicking the app icon in the dock and selecting "Quit" closes the program. I cannot interact with any artwork.
I am on macOS Sonoma on an M1 mac. It was factory reset in December and Illustrator was freshly installed after that.

Hi! I thought it would be helpful for me to reply as yesterday I ended up doing a live-chat to figure out the issue as that was happening to me as well, and my workflow is similar as 80% of my work consists of leaving illustrator open:
– I went back to Illustrator 2023 (27.9.1) which will always be supported by the adobe support.
This is because Adobe has shared that there is a bug between MacOS Sonoma & Adobe 28.0 and higher. (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/known-issues.html?src=community)
– I will use this one until the bug is resolved as I never experienced this and have done on the possible trouble shooting for it. I hope there is a fix for it, because the new features on AI 2024, are great and would love to use them again!
Hope this helps

Thank you for taking the time to reply! I'll have a go at downgrading my Illustrator install. Hopefully the fixes will come for us 🙂

I don't think it's illustrator that is the problem. I think it's Sonoma. I know my machine started getting laggy with Sonoma as well. I just downgraded to Ventura on my M1 Air and I cannot get it to crash. In the process of downgrading the M1 studio as I type this. I'll know by tomorrow if idowngrading to Ventura is the fix

Correct! It is a problem with Sonoma, which is a causing the bug on illustrator. I just think if you don't need the new features of AI, using 27.9.1 can help until the bug on Sonoma is fixed. It's easier than downgrading the OS, because other application I use, require the newest operating system

I tried that. Still I had the same problem with 27. With latest 28 version and Ventura I just installed on the Air, no issues yet.

With both versions installed I accidentally opened up both 2023 (27.9.1) and 2024 (28.1) and left them open in the background. Today, I wanted to tidy up all my tabs and apps and found that the 2024 version not frozen, but the 2023 one had.

Hello, I was having this problem too. I closed the MAGNET application and the problem was solved. If you have this or any other third party application, try it like this.

Magnet is a third party application. It does not come with Adobe.

I just spent the better part of an hour trying to make the menu freeze up. NOPE.. Ai 28.1 and macOS Ventura 13.6.3 So, it seems that what ever it is, it is working fine with these 2 versions. I am still saying it's Apple with the problem and not Adobe. Its one of them thats for sure. LOL

Hello @barbaran12628486,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing the issue you're experiencing with Illustrator's top menu freezing. I understand how frustrating it can be when such problems occur.
To help address this issue, I recommend ensuring that you are using the latest versions of both your operating system (macOS) and Adobe Illustrator.
Ensure that your macOS is updated to the latest version available, i.e., v14.3.
Ensure that you have the latest version of Adobe Illustrator installed, i.e. v28.2.
After updating both your operating system and Illustrator, restart your computer and check if the issue persists.
If the freezing issue persists even after updating, please provide more details about your system.
I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any further questions or observations.
Best,
Anshul Saini

Might want to to actually read the posts in the thread before posting generic replies. It's the latest OS causing the problem. So updating would be stupid when Ventura works fine.

Hi @Ryan219689773spq, during our previous conversation on January 17, I was able to replicate the issue on macOS Sonoma 14.2. However, after updating to Sonoma 14.3 and Illustrator 28.3, I no longer encountered the problem. This suggests that Apple may have implemented bug fixes in their latest update. Considering you are already on Sonoma, it would be advisable to update to the latest version or utilize the workaround I previously provided.
Best,

I downgraded to Ventura after this issue started. Not sure I want to gamble upgrading to Sonoma when my daily activities rely on this to work.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's completely understandable to prioritize stability, especially when your daily activities rely on the software. Since you've downgraded to Ventura and are hesitant to upgrade to Sonoma, that's a reasonable decision.
We're also waiting for observations from users like @barbaran12628486, who are already on Sonoma. Once we gather more insights, we'll have a better understanding of the situation.
Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or if there's anything else I can assist you with.
Regards,
Anshul

Some people could fix it by updating to Sonoma 14.4
