Dear forum,
I opened a pdf file in illustrator and switched to outline view.
Some letters are incomplete and missing some parts in the outline view. Please see the red marks in pic1. Why is that?
I used the unite and those missing parts are coming back. Please see the red marks in pic2. Is this the correct solution?
Thanks
ljh

PDFs were never meant to be edited and Illustrator is not a PDF editor.
Without seeing that file, nobody will be able to tell you what happened. But nost probably there's something wrong with the file and/or the objects in it.

Thank you for the file.
That's a strange one. But I assume that the application that created the file, produced the error.
As you already found out: when you select all and then use the pathfinder "Unite" (from the panel), the paths are closed.
In order to make sure you got them all, you can use the Document info panel. Set it to "Objects" (from its panel menu). Then select the paths and check if there are mentions of unclosed paths in the document info panel.

Hi Monika,
You are right. We generated PDFs like these. We will improve the PDF generation method in the future.
Thank you very much for your help

Hi Monika,
You are correct about the application generated the PDF wrongly.
The program tried to convert the .svg data to .ps data then to .pdf with some weird code. I update the code today based on Inkscape and convert .svg to .pdf with the option "text to path".
I open the new generated .pdf file in illustrator. All paths are closed without a single Unite operation.
Thanks

Absolutely!
Don't find out how to mark it. I'll try it later.
Thanks
