Installed OTF font not displaying

Hey all. I have a normal OTF typeface from a known font designer. After I install it, it shows in my Character panel, but there is no preview and nothing shows when I use it. It's just...blank/no characters. E.g. I can type my words in another font, but when I swap to this font, it's just a blank box. I tested it in Microsoft Word and it works fine. But, in Illustrator and Photoshop, it's just not displaying. It also kind of seems to mess with my artboard if I try to use it as well.

I have reached out to the designer, but have not heard back. Most of my searches for issues like this result in incorrectly installed or corrupt fonts. This is not the case. I'm so frustrated, as it's a typeface I really want to use. Thanks!

Which font is it? A font custom made for you?

Ah, OK. It's from dafont. 

You might want to make the font designer aware of the issue and have them fix it. 

Just as an addition: It is only days ago that I asked a couple of people I know for corrupt fonts. One of them even designed a corrupt font for me, because I wanted to crash Illustrator. I tried really hard. I couldn't get it to crash with these corrupt fonts. Illustrator would even use the corrupt font. So your font must be really bad. I think I'm going to download it and try it out myself.

OK, I tried it. And it works. It does even print (and my laser printer really only works half of the time)

So the issue could be with your installation. Do you use font management? Maybe turn it off. Is the font installed "For all users" (in case this is Windows)

I use MainType and I almost never have issues with fonts. I also checked in Adobe CC and it says the font is installed. Regarding dafont, I downloaded it from multiple websites just to be sure. I had the same problem with every one. (I'm sure they were the same file, but I wanted to try anyway.)

When I look within Windows, it says the font is installed and shows the preview, but I don't see anything about users.

I install or load fonts all the time, with virtually no issues. I do remember a similar issue a long time ago, but I have no clue how I resolved it. I think I just restarted haha. (Did not work this time.)

Illustrator does not like font managers that much. You need to make sure it's compatible.

In order to install a font for all users, right click it and then you can do that.

Uninstalled and restarted everything. Right clicked -> install for all users...same problem. 😞

As I said: I have tried the font. It works for me.

So maybe there is something else happening on your computer. Another font that has the same name?
