I'm drawing an isometric truck but can't work out the best way to get the thickness for the tyre. The steps taken so far are: before applying an Action to create an isometric version, begin with an elipse 50 x 50px, copy-drag and offset it above and behind the front elipse to create the thickness.
I've tried duplicating the front elipse, minus stroke, and combining it with the offset elipse using the Pathfinder >Unite and ended up adjusting the connecting anchor points. Or, maybe, adding lines between the 2 circles and connecting them but this seemed very hit and miss even with smart guides... Does anyone have a better suggestion?
Appreciate any help with this.

Michael,
If you are working with a simplified appearance as it seems, where the tyre appears cylindrical, you can create the isometric version of the front (the grey one) and then create a copy behind and move it up at 30 degrees (or at other angle) by the amount that corresponds to the width of the tread.
Keep a backup of the original paths.

And then you can use the Shape Builder to make the paths that form the different visible parts, and then colour them, using a gradient on the tread at the right angle; see about Shape Builder here,

Thanks Jacob. Thanks for all the helpful links and the script is now downloaded so will try it out and let you know. I've yet to use the Shape Builder in a live project so this will be a good place to start.

For my part you are welcome, and I look forward to your letting us know.

Yeah, as Jacob already said you have to create this in the perspective, not before the SSR action. If you want to be efficient, you could create only a half-donut and re-used that over and over, though the open paths and edges may cause issues later. If you need treads, create a custom brush or use a blend with a circular spine.

Thanks for getting back Mylenium. Yes I can see it makes sense to do the SSR Action first and I'll try your idea of doing it as a half-donut shape.
