It happens too often recently that AI crashes in the middle of work, usually while doing something very simple like moving a text box around.
And not only that it crashed, there isn't even a recovery file when I open it again.
This is really frustrating and time consuming.

What are your computer system specs (CPU, graphics card, amount of RAM, etc)? Do you have any periphreals attached, such as a Wacom tablet? Are the drivers for your graphics card and any attached periphreals up to date? In the case of Wacom tablets two versions of its driver released in January would cause Illustrator to completely crash (the application window would hang and then just vanish). They released updated drivers for Mac OSX in April and Windows on May 15.

Did updating the Wacom tablet driver solve the crashing issues?

Actually not... few hours after I updated the driver, AI crashed again.
But how can you tell if it's because the Wacom driver or maybe something else?

People in the know can read crashlogs
Everyone else has to go through all the options one by one.

I mentioned the Wacom tablet driver because it was painfully obvious the two updates in January were causing big problems with Illustrator. But, yes, other factors can contribute to crashes too. It's important to check for updates on other devices in the system, such as the graphics card. Sometimes another application running at the same time (or too many applications running at once) can cause crashes too or just create other odd problems.

Thanks for the advise. Usually I try to keep everything updated, but didn't think of the Wacom, cuz I don't use it much.
I think though, that another option is that Adobe messed things up. AI didn't use to crash so often not too long ago.
