when I create let say a curved line I can see it's length in documentinfo/ under object no matter what shape the line is.
it would be nice if you can dail in the length. so the shape stays the same but the length changes to what I dail in. that is not an option in illustrator right?
It is not the same as the length of the shape it is really the line length.
I use this for template making and this is always a problem.

As I (mis)understand it, you can copy the current length, then Object>Transform>Scale and work with Uniform as follows:
In the box, simply write the desired length multiplied by 100 (add two zeroes at the end or move the decimal dot/comma two places to the right), then / (for division), then paste the current length and press Enter.
That will give you the proportional scale to the desired length.
Remember to have Scale Strokes & Effects off (unless you mean on).

Jacob_Bugge you are a life saver.
I use a combination of blender and Illustrator to make templates from UV mappings.
And then build these kind of objects as a hobby.
