Hi! I have png artwork (an artwork of leaves that has a transparent background) that I am using to build an Illustrator file. When I go to save that .ai file as an .eps it seems to lose the transparency that the png artwork had when let's say I open the eps in Photoshop. Does anyone know why that is?
I can open the .eps in Illustrator and the transparency is still there but not in Photoshop.
It is a logo file so I want to make sure that when I give it to a printer or a 3rd party...they will be able to see the transparency in whatever program they have.
Thank you!!
The .eps file format does not support transparency. When you save and reopen an .eps file in Illustrator you are actually dealing with a conjoined twin file consisting of a native .ai part (which supports transparency) and some EPS data.
Use a different file format. Using PDF is the safe way to go most of the time.

EPS files can use clipping masks to make parts invisible. This is different from transparency.

Also, why do you think you need to send an eps? Many consider it to be an obsolete format. Is your printer asking for it?
Send the native AI and / or a PDF.

Please give some context to your question. What is it that you want to know?

Don't use .png. Instead, use .psd. Whatever is transparent in the .png you delete in the .psd ( the .psd becomes transparent when you convert "background" layer to "Layer 1" ). Then, Place the .psd in your .ai file then convert ( a copy ) to .eps. All raster effects and transparency will ultimately be flattened when saved as .eps; so make sure you do it on a copy of the original .ai file. When you open the .eps ( in Photoshop? ) the transparency will be retained. The way you are constructing of the logo is not recommended. Always create logos as vector artwork.
