mapping placed art in illustrator's 3d function

Is it possible to map a face of an object with a placed jpg?

So far, I'm not very encouraged.

I want to place a photo into the at, but I have not bee successful.

Make the .jpeg into a symbol ?

That does not work for me. When I try to make a symbol out of the placed jpg, I get the following error, even if I embed the jpg:

"A symbol definition cannot contain a linked image."

Embed the image, then make the symbol.

I think my problem was that I created a piece that has vector and jpg elements in it and grouped it together. Then, when I tried embedding the jpg, it seemed to not work.

I embedded the jpg first, then reassembled the elements, grouped them and made the symbol.
