I'm a beginner graphic designer so this could just be me not understanding, but I used the knife tool on this exact same object before and I had no issues using it. When i use the erase tool, it was fine. What am I doing wrong?

Ungroup the globe. The knife tool will work across multiple paths.

Your video is blurry and moves very fast! Can you post something we can see?

Make sure nothing is selected or the path is selected. If something else is selected the knife tool won't work on anything else.

Are your shapes paths, groups, mesh objects??? Select one and look in the upper left and tell us what the object is. You'll also see it in the Properties and Appearance panels.

I've moved your post from Using the Community (for forum questions) to Adobe Illustrator for you.

Thank you for the advice!! So I checked the top left and it's a group. The globe lines are all paths, I'm not too sure what i'm doing wrong?
