I probably didn't construct this correctly (I'm not an illustrator) but I can't figure out how to knock out those white lines and make them part of the overall image. Any ideas?Screenshot 2022-04-11 161428.jpgexpand image

cinstress,

As I (mis)understand it, you can:

1) Lock the reddish yellow background;

2) Select all the white lines, then hold Ctrl/Cmd and press G to Group them;

3) Hold Ctrl/Cmd and press A to select everything (the white lines and the black paths), then in the Transparency panel click Make (Opacity) Mask with Clip unticked and Invert Mask ticked.

Thanks so much for your quick reply! I actually solved it myself after a little further aggravation.Screenshot 2022-04-11 165304.jpgexpand image

You are welcome, cinstress.

Depending on (the structure of) your artwork and your needs/preferences, you could also do it in other ways such as Live Paint, Shape Builder, or Pathfinder (Minus front).

May I ask how you did it?

I actually redrew the white lines (made w/ the line tool) as actual shapes instead, then used the Pathfinder (minus front).
