Need to ungroup twice on Illustrator 28.0

New Here ,
Nov 30, 2023 Nov 30, 2023

Hello!  I finally updated my 2014 macbook to the new M3 macbook, so my Illustrator now is 28.0.  I am not sure if my problem is related to the M3 or the 28.0?

My new setup now requires me to click ungroup twice.  The system is responding as though I never clicked ungroup the first time.  Then, when I click ungroup again, it actually works.

Hope I am making sense!  Thank you for the help.

SO you watch the object in the Layers panel and it won't ungroup the first time?

What do you mean you have to click it twice? Select it from the menu? Click in the contextual taksbar, use the shortcut?

Me too! This is driving me insane!
Sometimes I need to ungroup way more than 2 times.

Does it work better when using the shortcut?

Or when using Ungroup from the main menu?

Trying to figure out if it's ungrouping in general that does not work or the rightclick.

This happens to groups where you are 100% certain that they are only grouped once, right? You are watching this in the layers panel?

I think its the right click only.
When I highlight the group in the layers panel and then right click > ungruop it does work on the first try.

Even if I accidiantlly group twice - im talking about 5-8 times of needing to click ungroup.

And the shortcut works as well?

What kind of mouse are you using?

Do you have a second monitor attached?

The shortcut that is listed in the menu. The default is cmd+Shift+G. (Windows= Ctrl instead of cmd)

I am also having the same issue. I group the items together once, and when I want to ungroup, I have to ungroup it 6 to 8 times. I have never had this problem in all my years using Illustrator; it's weird!

Does this happen when using the shortcut?

Or also when you select it from the menu?

Yes, I believe this is a bug too. Many years of using illustrator and this is driving me nuts.

Hello @CPTay and @crystlet67244659,

I understand how frustrating it can be when you encounter unexpected issues while working in Illustrator. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We want to help you resolve this as quickly as possible.

To better assist you, could you please let us know the exact version of Illustrator you are using? Additionally, if you could share a screenshot of the Layers panel showcasing the groups you are trying to ungroup, it would be really helpful for us to understand the issue better.

If possible, could you also share any specific file where you are experiencing this problem? This will allow us to investigate further and provide you with a more accurate solution.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to address this issue. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

Can you open the Layers panel while grouping and ungrouping to check what exactly is happening? Are there 2 or more groups in it? Does something change every time when you ungroup?
