Hello all,
So I'm an IT Analyst for a company and have a user that would like some information that I haven't really been able to find answers to... sort of. My user is currently running CS6 and works frequently with Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat. Recently we deployed the update to CS6, not sure what version was being used prior, but the user states that previously they were able to right click on a PDF and click the "Open with" option and Illustrator would be listed, but now it's not. I attempted to open it with Illustrator by using the "choose a different program", navigating to the local Illustrator.exe file, and selecting it to open with it, but then nothing happened.
The odd thing is that Photoshop is still listed as another program to use to open PDFs in the "Open with" option, which is why I'm getting push back from the user. A couple forums mentioned that if Acrobat is installed it likes to "hold a tight grip" on the file type program association. Myself and the user are aware of the 3 methods that can be used to import PDFs into Illustrator, but as we all know, people don't like change, and prefer to do it "the old way".
I guess my question is why would Photoshop still show as an option to "Open with" for PDFs but that same function no longer works for Illustrator and when did the support for that function stop? The other question my user has is why do only EMF files show when clicking the arrow to show recent files for Illustrator in the Start Menu. Any help or information will be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Mitch

My guess it would be a setting in the Preferences.

It may be an installer bug. Check the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER
