hi,

I'm looking for the correct way to have a pattern change from bigger to small, like the example in this link: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/a8/54/fb/a854fb5752151fa58d93d580878c4734.jpg

Help in how to achieve this effect is much appreciated.

thanks!

James

If you purchase it from Shutterstock you will be able to take it apart and see exactly what they did:

Select the objects and then analyze their structure and their attributes in the layers panel and the appearance panel.

Read about how to use those panels in the documentation.

I'd probably use the Blend tool. Create a couple of shapes and position them like this with the top and bottom shape identical. Actually, the 3 shapes below are all identical, but the center one has a thinner stroke. I used the same shape because it's important when using the blend tool that the shapes all have the same number of anchor points.

Select the 3 shapes.

Select the Blend tool.

Click on an anchor point in the top object. Click the corresponding anchor point in the center object, and then click the corresponding point on the bottom object. (the one in the same position). I click this point in the upper right on all 3 shapes, but it doesn't matter which point as long as it's the same point on all objects.

That resulted in this:

If you want to change the number of inbetween objects, select the blend, choose Object > Blend > Blend Options, and change from Smooth to Specified Steps.

Duplicate the blend.

Object > Transform > Transform Again (or the shortcut Ctrl D or Command D.
