Pattern Options ?

Very new to Illustrator. Made one pattern wanted to repeat it over 18 inch * 40 inch. Finding Difficulties

1) Gone to pattern options made all arrangement when i hit "DONE " my 5*5 pattern disappears.

2) If recollected it is only 25 patterns. I want pattern array over 18 inch * 20 inch.

PLZ Suggest im new to illustrator.

draw a rectangle (shortcut: M) for your 18 x 40 area. make sure the fill is active at the bottom of the tools palette. click on your new pattern swatch in the swatches palette.

If you click Done, your pattern gets added to your Swatches panel.

Create an object and fill it with the Pattern Swatch.

Thank you all !! Made pattern over 18*40 inch using above methods. Next..

1) Cant able to fill colour in white portion.

2) Above pattern is 4 colour pattern, got in a single layer and it is not a vector mask. How to convert all 4 colours in all 4 seperate layers.

Plz suggest very new to Illustrator !
