Can you automatically give every subsequent letter a different color for a batch of text designs

Hi, this is exactly what I was trying to find but I need to use something like that in Illustrator instead of Photoshop, do you know if there is a way to do that in illustrator? (I tried to find a solution or a script but no luck)

Can you share a sample Illustrator file that shows what you want to do? Also, does it have to be live type or would type converted to paths be sufficient as well?
