shortcut issue

i must have accidently keyed in a shortcut n dont know what it was...  my prob is now when i select multiple objects...i only get a box encompasing what ive sekected..but it doesnt show me the objects i have selcted..(each object is not outlined on its own within the large box)...any help please?

I think you are hoping to Show the Edges which is under View or maybe you are trying to show the Bounding Box.

View> Show/Hide Edges is showing the path 

View> Show/Hide Bounding Box is the box around the selected area with the big handles that can be used to resize the object without using Free Transform.
