Hey guys,

I used the zig-zag effect on a line, but now I want to shorten the zig-zag. When I pull on the line the zig-zag gets more wider or narrow, but I simply want to cut something off. I already tried pathfinder, eraser, slice tool, but nothing works. Probably its super easy and I just can't find it

Thank you for your help!

In that case you would need to expand Appearance and then cut it off.

Afterwards the effect is no longer editable.

So, keep the original artwork intact and do your modifications on a "copy" of the original.  This gives you the ability to go back in the future.  What I would do is use the "add" anchor point tool and create an anchor point on each end of the zig zag ( basicly figure out how much you need to shorten the line and add an anchor point on each end ) >  then, use the "subtract" anchor point tool ( in the Pen tool palette ) and click on the lines at the end of your original artwork ( thereby deleting them ).

If you want to keep the live Zig Zag effect intact, you would have to use an additional and preceding instance of the Roughen effect.
