Does anyone know if it's possible to spray symbols so that they automatically snap / align to a documents grid? Thx.

No.

What is it that you want to achieve? Which is your workflow?

Is it important to spray the symbols? Or is just placing them enough?

Does it need to be symbols? Or would any rectangle do?

Symbols would be great as we could update the content/form later. Spraying would be nice – by "just placing" you mean manually placing one by one? Workflow should be intuitive and fast. Would like to "randomly" a couple of forms (symbols) on a bigger layout.

Please tell us more details. What exactly do you need to do? Change color? Position? Size? the symbol?

Not necessarily

Can you please be more specific?

Maybe show an example?

And tell us the complete story.

Well…

Imagine a grid.

Imagine e.g. various rectangles, squares and maybe circles. Sizes are e.g. 1x1, 2x1, 2x2, etc… All forms are supposed to align perfectly with the grid.

It's possible to just distribute by hand, but were hoping there might be a more intuitive way.

Or maybe we'll work something out with transform / duplicate.

Imagine a grid.

I got so far, thank you.

You mentioned you want to be able to edit it. What exactly needs to be edited?

To get your grid, you could also draw a grid with the rectangular raster tool and then draw in it using live paint.

Or create a dither pattern with Photoshop and then trace it by using Object > Create object mosaic.

Afterwards there are then possiblities to convert the results into rectangles or even symbols.

But what do you need to change?
