Symbol's grid and guides

The original shape position is x0,y0 in the artboard. I convert it to a symbol then it moves to its own space and not following the artboard grid. How can I keep the symbol in place, or follow a grid?

OK, that's weird.

Symbols have indeed their own grid, which makes sense, because the same symbol can be positioned all over the place.

But when you enter symbol editing mode, the 0,0 location will always be in the center of the viewport (the document window). If you want it to stay where it is, double click the symbol instance on th artboard for editing.

Double click the instance of the symbol on the artboard instead of in the Symbols panel.

Thanks that could help. But I don't think it's correct that the 0,0 of the symbol is the centre of the viewport. I am not sure what reference the symbol is using.
