Text box help

Once I downloaded the latest version of Illustrator, I've been having issues. The outline of my text boxes are now red. They automatically fill in with placeholder text rather than starting as blank. I can't put text on top of anything (every time I press arrange to front, it doesn't do anything). Please help!

can you show a screenshot?

what is the font that is loading?

are you using a font manager?

Here's an example. I created a text box and the Latin fill in text automatically fills up the box. I've already tried clicking 'fill with placeholder text' but that just adds more.

I can't get the newest text box to be on top of everything else. I'm working on a file someone else had created but have not had this problem before.

Go to Preferences > Text to deactivate the placeholder text (please read the manual about the new features)

Also: open the layers panel to make sure you work on the topmost layer.
