I want to choose which font to substitute. I actually have the font, but it's named something else. I have D-DIN - Italic, which is EXACTLY like DINPRO-Italic. Same exact font, different name. When I open it, it randomly selects a substituted font. So annoying. I rather choose which one. Anyone help?? And no, I do not want to place the file to convert the text to outlines.

Which Illustrator version do you have?

That's what I'm wondering. The Myriad Variable Concept fonts are a required inclusion with installations of Adobe Illustrator CC 2018 and later. If the original poster is using an earlier version of Illustrator (such as version CS6) they wouldn't be able to use the font files even if they had them since OTF Variable Fonts are only supported in Illustrator CC 2018 and later.

I understand the font substitution issue can be quite frustrating. To address this, I recommend reinstalling the missing font "MyriadVariableConcept-Roman" to ensure that your document displays as intended.
Here's how you can proceed:
- Locate the font "MyriadVariableConcept-Roman" in your font collection.
- Reinstall it by following your operating system's font installation instructions.
After reinstalling the font, open your Illustrator document, and the missing font issue should be resolved.
If you encounter any further problems or have specific concerns related to your Illustrator version, please feel free to ask for more assistance.
Best,

The Myriad Variable Concept Roman font is one of 20 OpenType font files that are bundled in with installations of Adobe Illustrator. On a Windows PC the font files should be found under the path:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2024\Support Files\Required\Fonts
One possible solution would be uninstalling and then reinstalling Illustrator and then checking to see if the fonts are present under the appropriate folder. But that solution would only be good if the original poster is using the current version of Illustrator or a recent version CC version.
The same typeface is available at Adobe Fonts under the Myriad VF name.
