trouble cutting out the middle of letter

i don't know if i explained that right but here is the pictureScreen Shot 2019-09-14 at 11.44.02 PM.pngso its an a and the middle part isnt connected then at the bottom i don't know how to get color out of that turn, any help would be great.

Not clear which part you are referring to.

If it is the white filled area, select it (keep the fill color over the stroke one) and click in the icon with a diagonal red line.

 

Be aware that where reas and lines cross over others there could be Compound Paths, paths and areas that act together, use the same fill and strokes attributes.

I see just 1 disconnected shape, the round one in left-bottom corner of image. You can use Pen tool, click on starting and then ending points of path and the new line will close the path. The white one is closed. What do you want to do? Create empty area there? Change the color to background one? Something else?
