Unable to save files in Illustrator CC 2019 on mac OS Catalina

Hello

I recently installed Mac OS 10.15 (Catalina) and Illustrator now no longer allows me to "Save As" (via the menu). The dialogue box will not appear, but it appears to not be off screen as the application behaves as if the box never appeared. Command-Shift-S will NOT do anything. "Save As a Copy" and "Save as Template" do NOT work either.

I completely uninstalled Illustrator (deleting the prefs as well) and reinstalled it. I still get the same issue.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

At the moment this is being investigated. There are already a couple of threads with the same issue.

Possible culprits:

- printer not installed correctly, driver not compatible

- Wacom driver outdated and interfering

- graphic cards or drivers interfering

- outdated plugins

- corrupt fonts

Please search the forums for the other threads so in case of an update you get the news.

Thank you. TO add to the issue, if I create a new document, the Command-S will do nothing, so I won't be able to save it. Command-S only works on existing documents..

Did you allow Illustratorto write to your disk? Apparently this needs to be done in Catalina. I don't have, so don't know how. But there should be documentation available.

I've only updated the system. I haven't changed anything else and I've never heard about allowing Illustrator to save on a disk (I work on Adobe for 10 years now). How can I do this?

Yeah, you've only update the system. It's the system that has these settings. https://mjtsai.com/blog/2019/06/06/security-privacy-in-macos-10-15-beta/ and https://www.intego.com/mac-security-blog/new-security-and-privacy-features-in-macos-catalina-and-ios... Try and open the info about Illustrator in the Finder.

It's not it. Settings in the "info about" are ok and allow to save files.

In that case try and rebuild the Illustrator preferences or even re-install the application. Sometimes this is necessary after installing a new system.

Hi,

We are so sorry to hear about this issue. This has been reported by a few other users as well. I would request if you can upvote this issue here: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-bugs/suggestions/38772067-can-t-save-fil...

This is the best way of communicating with the Engineering and Product Management teams regarding issues and suggestions so they can be implemented in future releases.

As a workaround, please try saving the document by following this method.

Go to Files > Scripts > SaveDocsAsPDF

Also, could you please confirm if you are using MacBook Pro Touch Bar? If yes, please go to System Preferences > Keyboard and check if you see the Touchbar options? We have noticed that user's who are using MacBook Pro Touch Bar are getting this issue more.

All this information will help us investigating this issue and fix it as soon as possible.

Srishti

Thanks for sharing the details. I would also need the spx file from your system. To share spx file from MAC please try following these steps:

  • Click on Apple Icon > About this Mac > System Report
  • This will launch the System Profiler
  • Then Click File > Save > Save in Creative Cloud Files
  • Then open https://assets.adobe.com/files
  • Click on three dots next to spx file > Share > Copy Link and paste it in Private message I just sent you.
