Opening an older Illustrator project file with the latest version

I have the current Illustrator version (25.1) and I was given a file to work with that is an older version. The formatting gets thrown off when I try to open the file. Is there a way for me to upsave this old project file to be the latest version?

How old?

Do you have the fonts?

Is it the .ai file or a .pdf version?

Its .ai file. I have the fonts. Bridge says its v 25.0

If you go back to 25.0 (CC app > All Apps > Illustrator 25.1 > click the 3 dots > Other Versions), does it open correctly?

It does open correctly when I use 25. But not 25.1. Most of the text is missing. Very odd. I'll report as a bug. Thanks
