Pathfinder issue not segmenting correctly

Hello all! I am NEW to Adobe Illustrator--- no pro here! I am trying to make a color wheel and color segments.  I have used tutorials to make what I have posted, but when I divide the product via pathfinder tool, only some of the segments are correct, while some are in groups of three.  Please see images as posted.  How do I fix this?

Just use the shapebuilder tool or live paint instead of the pathfinder.

Unfortunately a lot of the people on youtube still haven't discovered these functions after 15 years ...
